I
purchased my first 35mm camera while stationed in West Berlin in
1973-75. We had a photo lab at Tempelhof with all the equipment
necessary to develop B/W film and create prints. Having never snapped a
photo or processed film, I ventured forth. Over time I discovered the
focus ring, realized that a polarizer reveals clouds, and started to
vaguely get the relationship between ISO, aperture, and shutter speed.
35 years later I scanned the old scratched up negatives and the results
are posted under "First SLR". The same camera was used to snap a few photos at my next duty station, Fortuna AFs, ND and my vacation to Yellowstone in 1975.
Fast forward to 2009. Anticipating a cruise on the Oasis of the Seas,
I purchased a Nikon D5000, some filters, photography books and an
assortment of "eBay Specials" (antique manual lenses). I'm no Peter Lik, but I occasionally produce a photo I can be proud of.
But wait! There's more! I received a new Nikon D7000 which allows me to use the camera's metering on all my ancient Nikon mount lenses (except for my beloved 300mm Nikkor H).
